School District #59 accepts applications for teaching positions on an ongoing basis.

External Teaching Positions

School District #59 (Peace River South) posts all its jobs on-line through Make a Future - Careers in BC Education (www.makeafuture.ca).

The Make a Future – Careers in BC Education site is powered by applytoeducation.com. If you have an existing account with them, you can use your username and password to log into www.makeafuture.ca. If not, you can create an account on Make a Future – Careers in BC Education by clicking Register.

Once you have an account, please sign up for the 'Job Alert' feature so you are emailed jobs that interest you.

Please note that candidates also have the option of applying to our District by mailing their application.  If you apply to specific postings with a paper application you will need to fill out and send a separate application for each posting.  If you choose to apply on www.makeafuture.ca you do not need to fill out a paper application or mail/courier any information directly to the District office.

Applying for a Teaching Positions

Applications can be sent at any time in the year to:

Your covering letter should include:

  • position applied for (elementary/secondary/specialist)
  • when available
  • main assets, strengths and talents

Your resume should note:

  • personal data (name, address, phone number)
  • teaching practica/work history
  • education
  • degrees, diplomas, certificates
  • major, minor(s)
  • methodology courses
  • other relevant information
  • awards, publications, accomplishments
  • professional references (name, title, address and phone number)

Included with your application should be:

  • copy of British Columbia College of Teacher's certificate
  • copy of Teacher Qualification Service card
  • a statement of your philosophy or professional perspective.

Once an application is received, it is reviewed for grade range, subject area and qualifications. This information is entered into our applicant data base. As needs arise, the data base is searched for those with qualification in the area of need and the application package is re-examined. A short list of candidates is called to interview. The interview is normally conducted by two staff members who are interested in knowing your knowledge of curriculum and instructional methodology as well as your understanding of the inter-relationships of staff, students and parents. You may be engaged in discussion of your past experiences related to education. You may be asked to bring originals of the documents you submitted with your resume.

Procedures:

All positions are posted on our job bulletin and applications from those currently on staff continuing and temporary contract teachers are considered first. Once this process is concluded and should a suitable candidate not be found, we search for suitable applicants through the external applications received with an interview conducted.
