Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day

arwork

National Indigenous Peoples Day is nationally recognized on June 21st as a day for all Canadians to honour and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. For generations, many Indigenous peoples and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on or near this day due to the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year.

This year, the District will be holding its celebration on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 as graduation events are being held at the high schools on June 21 & 22. The District's celebration will include a Zoom Around the District highlighting all the great achievements of students and honouring Indigenous peoples.  Activities will continue at schools throughout the day.

Everyone is welcome to attend the public event on June 25th at DCSS-South Peace Campus from 4:30 to 6:30 pm.  The event will include a BBQ (hosted by Secure Energy Services), jigging, face painting, rock painting, games, photo booth, and live entertainment by Reckless Love.
